During the week of June 24, 2012 Network Engineering andTechnology will be making the following changes to the wireless network to provide a better user experience and more security to the Mason networks.
During the maintenance window (7-10 AM), engineers will upgrade the wireless firewall from a single firewall to a High Availability cluster. This will provide redundancy in case of a hardware failure. At the same time, engineers will remove the "EDGE" SSID. This was the precursor to MASON-SECURE and was never planned to be the final implementation.
Starting at 7 AM, Network Engineering and Technology will be moving the MASON-SECURE SSID to the newly implemented wireless firewall cluster. At this time, the external IP's used for all wireless networks will change from the 129.174. x..x to 192.5.215.x. This change is for security purposes to separate the wireless from all other Mason networks and allow for better security on both wired and wireless networks. If you have access to a Mason network that is considered to be a secured or private network or trying to remote desktop to a computer on the Mason wired network, after this maintenance you will need to use the Mason VPN to gain access to your secured network.
We appreciate your support as Network Engineering & Technology strives to provide you a better wireless user experience. If you have any questions, please contact wireless@gmu.edu.
