MASON-SECURE is a new wireless network that provides added security and ease of use to the Mason community. MASON-SECURE uses your Patriot Pass login information (Mason NetID and strong password). Once a device such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet is configured and authenticated by MASON-SECURE, it will automatically connect to the network without the user having to enter their login ID and password for each session.
Data transmitted on the network is encrypted for increased security with a security standard known as 802.1X. While a comprehensive list of compatible devices is not available, most newer wireless devices are likely able to access the network.
The Mason General Network and MasonResNet will continue to provide Internet access; however, the university strongly encourages students, faculty, and staff to utilize MASON-SECURE for their wireless connectivity. MASON-SECURE went live April 30, 2012. This site will be revised as new systems and devices become compatible with 802.1X. Check back periodically for updates relevant to your equipment.
